Chapter 6
When he called, I melted on hearing his voice. I wanted him, really wanted him, but would the image in my mind match the real version of Cole Parker? Iâd built him up into this amazing guy, all based on lust and want â when really he was still just an ordinary guy. Well, ordinary if you call a guy that makes your heart sing normal.
Biology had me at a standstill when he was around. I couldnât move, could barely breathe, and all I could think about was babies and wild sex with my future husband. And yet, weâd only ever kissed that one night. I was way ahead of the game, and needed to slow down. He was triggering all sorts of bells inside of me, and every time I saw him my head was spinning, swimming in a sea of desire.
I knew that I was smitten, but where was he in this love match? He was obviously interested because he was calling again, but he was so damn hard to read. We made plans to go out the following evening after work. Boston Jakeâs was a safe bet, since weâd been there before, so we decided to meet at seven.
When he saw me, he waved. âItâs great to see you.â He stood to greet me. It was awkward, do we hug, shake hands? Thankfully he decided for us and gave me a brief yet polite hug. It said we knew each other, but it wasnât too intimate.
I wanted to be intimate. I wanted to run my tongue all over his body, and get lost in his eyes, but for now I accepted the small hug as a token.
âHow have you been?â He asked, starting the conversation. âLook, I wanted to apologize about what happened. It was really crappy timing, and I had no idea things would work out how they did. We both realized we were ready to move on, but sometimes the comfort of what you know...â he trailed off. He shouldnât even be explaining, but he felt the need.
âRight,â I wasnât sure what else to say. I wanted this more than him. It was obvious.
âAnyway, I hope you can forgive the interruption.â He apologized.
âIt kind of happened fast. I mean, one minute youâre kissing me, a few hours later youâre back with her. I wasnât sure what to think.â
He nodded, âI know, I know. She showed up after we parted, and then one thing led to another.â He looked down and then back up at me.
What was he saying, one thing led to another, was he implying? âOh my gosh, did you sleep with her that night after you were out with me?â
âThatâs kind of personal, itâs not like weâre an item.â He laughed it off, thinking it odd that Iâd even ask.
âIâm just not sure how I feel about this,â I finally admitted. âI think it just all happened too close together. Maybe Iâm not ready for this,â I said, starting to stand. This was just plum crazy.
